India Post issued this stamp to commemorate the 3rd General Conference of the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), that was held in Delhi between 21st January – 8th February 1980. The event was attended by all UN member states, experts from specialised agencies and intergovernmental and non-governmental actors.
India was one of the founding members of UNIDO when it was established in 1966. UNIDO is a specialised agency of the UN that aims to promote and accelerate sustainable industrial development. In India, UNIDO has been operating through a Sub-Regional Office in New Delhi since January 2000. The office also covers Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
