On 19th October 2018, the UN Postal Administration (UNPA) issued this special event sheet to commemorate the festival, Diwali. This sheet contains ten stamps featuring festive lights and the symbolic "diya" clay lamps, as well as the UN Headquarters in New York illuminated with a "Happy Diwali" message.

Diwali was recognised by the UN for the first time at the 69th UN General Assembly in 2014, with a resolution calling UN bodies to "avoid holding meetings on Diwali”. Two years later, Diwali was commemorated for the first time at the UN, with the facade of its headquarters lit on the occasion, and the words 'Happy Diwali', together with the image of a traditional 'diya', projected onto the building. A month later, the United States Postal Service's Diwali stamp was recognised at the UN headquarter, where campaigner and chair of Diwali Stamp Project, Ranju Batra presented USPS's first-ever Diwali stamp.
