India Post issued this commemorative postage stamp on International Yoga Day on 21st June, 2015 to mark the first celebration of International Yoga Day.
The celebration of International Yoga Day was proposed by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi during a speech during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly and recognised by the UN in December 2014 through resolution 69/131. The stamp highlights the significance of yoga as a practice that promotes physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

The first International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June, 2015, with about 36,000 people, including Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, performing yoga in New Delhi. The day aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of yoga, which include improved physical and mental well-being.

International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on 21st June as this is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, known as the summer solstice. The UN recognises this day to promote global health, harmony, and peace.
