This 2009 definitive postage stamp issued by India Post on 2nd October 2009 commemorated Mahatma Gandhi and the principle of non–violence and his contributions to peace and his visions of a harmonious world.
The stamp was released on 2nd October, coinciding with Gandhi's 140th birth anniversary and the International Day of Non-Violence. The stamp features a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, symbolising his enduring legacy and the global impact of his philosophy of nonviolence.
The International Day of Non-Violence was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly through resolution A/RES/61/271 and adopted on 15th June 2007.
