On 17th November 2005, India Post issued this commemorative stamp for the World Summit on the Information Society.
The UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) was held 16th – 18th November 2005 in Tunis, Tunisia. On 21st December 2001, the UN General Assembly approved resolution 56/183 which endorsed the holding of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) to discuss on opportunities and challenges of the information society.
One of the main concerns expressed in the 2005 summit was that of a digital divide, both between and within nations, between digital haves and have nots.
