On 11th July 2008, India Post issued this commemorative postage stamp featuring the Mahabodhi Temple. This stamp was issued to celebrate the cultural and historical ties between India and China and promote mutual understanding and strengthened bonds between the two countries.

The Mahabodhi Temple, a significant site in Buddhism, symbolises the shared heritage and spiritual connections between India and China. Mahabodhi Temple Complex at Bodh Gaya is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2002.

The Mahabodhi Temple Complex is one of the four holy sites related to the life of the Lord Buddha, and particularly to the attainment of enlightenment. The first temple was built by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century B.C., and the present temple dates from as late as the 5th century from the late Gupta period.
