On 25th November 2024 India Post issued this commemorative stamp to celebrate the International Year of Cooperatives. The International Year of the Cooperatives was recognised by the UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/78/289 on June 19th, 2024.
This stamp highlights the significant role of cooperatives in promoting sustainable development and inclusive growth. Its design blends traditional farming imagery with modern elements like a drone, symbolising the integration of advanced agricultural technologies.
On 25th – 29th November 2024, the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) hosted the ICA General Assembly and Global Conference in New Delhi. The release of the stamp coincided with the ICA General Assembly and Global Conference held in New Delhi, marking the first time in ICA's 130-year history that its General Assembly was hosted in India.
The ICA Conference brought together over 1,500 participants from around 100 countries, emphasising the global importance of the cooperative movement. The occasion aimed to inspire global cooperative leaders to advance principles of unity, cooperation, and shared progress, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
During his speech at the ICA General Assembly and Global Conference in New Delhi, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi emphasised the deep-rooted significance of cooperatives in India. He highlighted that while cooperatives are seen as a model globally, in India, they are a fundamental part of the culture and way of life. Aligning with the conference's theme of "Cooperatives Build Prosperity for All”, he also underscored the role of cooperatives in promoting sustainable development and inclusive growth.
