India Post issued this set of four stamp on the occasion of the 8th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP8) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which took place between 23rd October – 1st November 2002, in New Delhi.
This conference marked a pivotal moment in the global effort to address climate change. One of the key outcomes of COP8 was the adoption of the Delhi Ministerial Declaration. The declaration emphasised the need for developed countries to transfer technology and minimise the impact of climate change on developing countries. The Declaration also highlighted the importance of sustainable development and called for enhanced efforts to combat climate change through international cooperation.
The conference also approved the New Delhi work programme on Article 6 of the Convention. Article 6 focused on education, training, and public awareness regarding climate change, with the aim of ensuring that people worldwide are better informed about climate change and its impacts.
