On 1st May 1994, India Post issued this commemorative stamp to mark the 75th anniversary of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The principal role of the ILO is to set of international labour standards in the form of the Conventions and Recommendations. These standards have made valuable contributions in promoting development with social justice.
This stamp was part of India's ongoing recognition of the ILO's contributions to labour rights and standards. By 1994, India had ratified 36 out of the 178 ILO Conventions. The partnership between India and the ILO has supported the Indian tripartite system between government, employers, and workers in formulating labour policies and legislation.
