India Post issued this set of four commemorative postage stamps on World Environment Day on 5th June 2018. Each of the stamps highlighted different aspects of environmental conservation, designed to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our environment and promoting sustainable practices.
The UN celebrated World Environment Day 2018 with the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution". India was the global host for the event, which took place on 5th June 2018, emphasising the urgent need to reduce single-use plastic pollution.
The same year, in 2018, Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi was awarded the UN’s highest environmental honour, the Champions of the Earth Award, marking a testimony to India’s leadership and commitment on environmental issues.

The main event was organised in New Delhi and included a series of conferences in Vigyan Bhawan, including an exhibition in the Rajpath Lawns behind Vigyan Bhawan. The exhibition, titled "Sambandh," showcased the relationship between people and the environment, with a focus on pollution, particularly plastic pollution. India conducted extensive plastic clean-up drives in public areas, national reserves, forests, and beaches. Several states, universities, and national parks implemented bans on single-use plastics.
