India Post issued this set of four stamps in commemoration of the International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8th March 2007. The theme of 2007 was “Ending Impunity for Violence against Women and Girls”.

IWD is celebrated on 8th March every year to honour the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and to advocate for gender equality. The origins of IWD date back to the early 20th century, a period of significant social movements and labour unrest. This stamp sheetlet issued by India Post featured paintings by Mrs. Jayasri Burman, showcasing the art and talent of Indian women.

The first National Woman's Day was observed in the United States on February 28th, 1909, organised in support of striking garment workers. International Women's Day was officially recognised by the UN in 1977 and first emerged from the activities of labour movements at the turn of the 20th century in North America and across Europe.
