On 24th October 2004, India Post issued this commemorative stamp titled "Indian Army in UN Peacekeeping Operations" to celebrate India’s contributions of the Indian Army to global peacekeeping efforts under the UN.
India's involvement in UN peacekeeping missions’ dates back to the early 1950s, and began with the deployment of troops to Korea in 1953-54 as part of the Neutral Nations Repatriation Commission, tasked with repatriating prisoners of war.
One of India’s notable deployments was its support during the Congo Crisis in 1961, where Indian troops played a crucial role in bringing about peace and engaging in combat with mercenaries.
The 2004 commemorative stamp not only celebrates the Indian Army's contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, but also raises awareness of India's continuous commitment to global peace and security.
